Asalamu Aleikum, I’m a professional filmmaker from Spain, so I’m OK on the production technical front. I do want to learn more about the marketing side of things and I want to enter a community of Muslim film makers and creatives as I’m a bit isolated in that sense. Thank you very much for all your work,

  2. farid says:

    salam brother,
very inspiring, i have a cinematic sense and i can help anyone to find out areas of fault or where one can improve i am very much excited to learn about film making as well

jazakAllah thanks for your time and effort

  3. Muslimah says:

    I would like to learn
    1. Entire process A to Z (teaching to beginners)
    2. Tools, software and programs
    3. Process, tricks of the trade, making it stand out from the rest

    My Dawah is focused on:
    - Non-Muslims (predominatly chritians and jews) Topic centered short videos
    - New Mulims – Basics of Islam – short videos
    - Muslim youth getting them active and invloved in Islam (knowledge and community activism)

  4. Suleiman says:

    Assalamu Alaikum,
May Allah (swt) reward you for everything and anything you’ve done in his path.

Alhamdulillah, I have a variety of tools and programs at my hand, Adobe Master Collection CS3, with SoundBooth, Flash, Premiere Pro, AfterEffects, etc.
However, my knowledge in these videos is close to none. I have made various videos with Windows Movie Maker, but I am sure with Message Mastery, much more could be learned to give da’wah with more success.
A few things I’d like to learn are:
    1. More details on using these programs to create presentations.
    2. Creating Documentaries.
    3. Presenting the information to Non-Muslims efficiently.
    4. Using the tools in an organized and logical fashion to create a video with as much quality as possible with an equalized amount of effort and time put into it.
    5. Adding special effects to videos.
    6. Lighting, props, lens, etc.

    Jazakallahu Khair,
    Salamu Alaikum

  5. Anisa says:

    Asalaamu Alaaikum!

Alhamdulilah for this oppurtunity to learn. I think using Multimedia (audio, video) and online resources (sites, chat groups, forums) are the best forums of dawah Alhamdulilah. JazaakAllah Khair for wanting to teach your muslim brothers and sisters tips on how to make great dawah videos. I make some already, but they are mainly (only!) windows movie maker projects, with pictures, rarely with video clips.
    My questions:
1)the best equipment to use (at the cheapest price!). I don’t want to become like a real filmaker, subhanAllah. And I’m not sure if I want to go into documentary. I just want to make stock videos of nature, and other things maybe like events…
2)what program to use? how much is it? what free programs do you know of [besides windows movie maker]
3)My target audience is all Muslims, so what main message should be in my videos?

BarakAlahu Feek brother, May Allah grant you jannah in the next life, ameen

    Wa’alaykum Asalaam
    your sister Anisa aka Shaykha

P.S. Those al maghrib videos rock! I love them, subhanAllah. How long did it take you to make them?

    2) They like to know that Islam is really simple, practical and natural to practice
    3) They like the usage of stories to share and present islam
What i want to learn from this prog?

Assalam alaikum! I would like to learn a lot about to make quality videos on daw’ah. Make even short documentaries that even if not officially produced will have an impact on Non-muslim users as a message of Truth and peace and at the same time a great impact too, to Muslim bros and sisters to strengthen their faith. Other categories I guess falls into that…thank very much brother!

    Assalam alaikum!

  11. Tasneem says:

plus i’d like to know best programs to use for movie making and picture editing as well as the sounds…i heard u-lead’s one of the top but i’m still in doubt…

  12. Vicki says:

Salamz Belal….I am a recent revert to Islam, after many years in the Christian church. I have always had a heart for the truth of God’s grace and mercy to be poured out among the people….yet now I am most compelled to speak the truth of the beauty of Islam to the world…both Christian as well as secular. I also have such compassion for the people of Palestine and desire to raise my “voice” in protest of the atrocities occuring there that most of the Western world is unaware of.

My goals are to use the creativity that Allah has given me to spread truth…in whatever forum that may be. I have talent for writing, and am able to understand marketing strategies, yet have no knowledge of video production.

I have witnessed the power of even basic media as seen in Baba Ali’s videos….simple yet effective, and would appreciate any teachings concerning fundamental media production.

    Allah Hafiz :]

I don’t want to be odinatory anymore. Show me how to be extraordinary. Teach me to make a dawah video.. simple yet effective.. can’t do this alone bro.
    Asalamu alaikum

  18. Ali says:

    Specifically:
    1. how to get started (i.e. need a good/inexpensive cam)
    2. how to choose an overall theme
    3. should the message be happy-go-lucky or tearfully sad (or a bit of both)?
    4. what footage to use.
    5. editing your footage (what’s the best software to do this.. the cheaper the better).

I don’t want to make a profit off the video.. so I want it to be low-budget but impactful… is this possible? InshaAllah.

  19. Sofiyah says:

    2. Focus on low-budget marketing techniques for the video
    3. How to get the video to be interactive, so that people will talk about it and maybe have to do something even after they watch it.

  20. hassan says:

I would like to knoe 3Dmax animation and Video effects

Im working on a stand alone project I am intrested in web development and graphic design. http://www.nemuslims.com …..it is only for test …

  22. amar says:

    Salaam Alaykum

    1) Where do we get resources such as content that we will be saying. So that we are able to talk upon a certain subject, for a period of time. For example what websites do we need to have access to so that we can learn the information ourselves so that we can latter on pass the message to others by. Such as websites, blogs, books, DVD’s.

    2) After we record the footage for our film, what editing software do we need to edit it. So that we are able to cut, edit and delect different scenes, so please provide us with editing software that is appropriate for us to use. For people who don’t have knowledge of how to use editing programs. Such as lessons to lessons to teach how to use the software. And how can we get a hold of this software for free. As I’m a student who does not have much money.

    3) Marketing the videos that I make will be necessary, so that people are able to view it. But how will people be able to view my videos such as from what websites should i upload my videos. Such as YouTube, Google videos and others. And also how can people search my videos on Google. So that I’m able to get a lot of hits on them.

    4) Even thou this is not that important but how can I make money from the hits I gain from the videos I make. Such as using programs such as Google Adsence, where by every time you click on a advertisement that’s on the side of a page, you as the owner of that website will get about £0.05 to £2 per click of that advertisement. This money can be used later on to invest money into future dawah projects, or producing Islamic material.

  23. I have all software that support making video stil can’t do , ( Imovie, Iwork )
sample of what I have made :
    http://mohammedlali.multiply.com/video/item/146/Lecture_Amina_Elahi.mov

  26. iMuslim says:

    Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah

I have some experience with amateur film production from my school days, which I have fond memories of, and would love to get back into insha’Allah.

I believe my personal focus is directing and cinematography. I love the artistic side to filming, and have a strong perfectionist streak when it comes to trying to make something flow seamlessly, with a bit of flare thrown in.

Therefore, I would like to learn the insider secrets of how to get that “perfect” shot, including manipulation of the environment and “actors” if one has them.

I would also like to learn good marketing strategy that could be applied to other aspects of my dawah work, including my blogging activities, insha’Allah.

Finally, as a good director and producer, I believe one should know how to manage one’s team and resources, especially when you have zero budget. So resource management (as well as “how to get something for nothing” tips) would be great, insha’Allah.

My target audience would be pretty general; most likely the “youtube” generation. I would love to make films that cross the boundaries of religion, and concentrate on common ground – “universal truths” that are perfected in Islam, such as the search for truth that drives so many to ask the “big questions”.

Anyway, my comment is far too long already. I pray this project is a great success, and that we all benefit from it in this life and the next. Ameen.

    Wa’salam

My particular interest is dawa’h against alcohol and drugs in societies. The targeting audience is between 15-30 years old. I’d like to use a foreign language (Russian, particularly) to promote it.

My interest will be the basics and animation design. I am also wondering about the equipments, I hope they are not very pricey.

  40. aida says:

salaaemalekum. incha’allah my husband and i will be in senegal for ten months (starting in june) to do research. we are interested in 1. Qur’anic schools for girls and 2. how religion and literature are taught in public high schools. is literature taught in a way that encourages the students to strengthen their deen and to question certain unislamic traditions? or are students taught secular or french literature and are they discouraged from using critical thinking? the audience would be 1. kids interested in reading and learning and 2. american and senegalese high school teachers interested in using multiethnic texts to encourage critical thinking in the classrooms. which teachers are the most effective in getting their students analyzing their environment and how is this strengthening their deen? we know nothing about filming and just spent all our savings on a camera. we need to learn the basics of editing! and then incha’allah we can share our videos at high school teacher conferences in america and senegal! and maybe teachers could use our videos in their classrooms to teach american youth more about dfiferent muslim cultures. if this works, we’d like to do the same in other muslim countries incha’allah! thank you for your advice!

  41. [...] Check out this video about his journey on video editing and subsequent intro to his Webinar: [...]

  42. Rami says:

    Asalaam Aleikum Warahmatullah Wabarakatu,

Goal: I just want to learn basics: ie) How to compress the video and do basic editing and sound-overs.

Note: I think the biggest mistakes on most videos that I see is lighting issues, second would be sound.

Question: What are the equipment requirements for the lessons?

  43. afifa says:

    aslam
i want to learn about compressing, editing, synchronising and also about the equipment.i find all this very intreseting but sadly havent been able to do much about it.inshallah all that will change.
you are doing a very good job belal.keep it up.

  44. Assalaamu’alaikum!

Great intro video. To the point and motivational. I’d like to know what software tools you use after the footage has been imported onto the PC. And the minimum PC equipment required (I don’t have a Mac).

    Jazakallahukhairan,
    Wasalam.

  45. Nasif Sikder says:

    Salams
    I would like 2 know:

    1. How do I make 3D animation cartoons for children? I have no idea about it so tell me all about it. Or give me some good links to websites about it at least please.

    2. Is there any good (and not too expensive) video editing softwares out there (not windows movie maker) that can make super quality videos and has lots of good feature? I would like to get it.

    3. Where can I get cool sound effects.

JZK Thank you for your time. Salam

  46. DefSufi says:

    Salaams!
I would be total noobie at this, so everything I could learn would be valuable, from equipment to techniques. I took a film making class about 25 years ago, when student films were still done on 16mm film stock….the writing techniques will still transfer, but equipment, sound, vid and editing have all changed since then.
I would like to know what good quality video and audio equipment I should look for on a very small budget, editing software, etc., as well as tech stuff.
My target audience would be non-Muslims, new Muslims, and those who once came to Islam but drifted away due to family interference or disillusionment/lack of community support, and those struggling to increase their practice.

  47. Ahmad says:

    Salam Alaikum,
    Thank you for adding me…
I would like to know about, whatever you think should be the first step one should inquire about when producing digital video/animation….

I would like to know what/how:
    1.Software and tools are needed.
2.How to create a good looking logo.
3.how to effectively advertise a production.
I hope you will kindly help me on the above.
    Salam

  49. Abu Turab says:

    Assalamu alaikum

I’m primarily interested in taking complicated intellectual and political subjects and breaking them down into inspirational videos. I’d like to focus more on provocative documentary-style productions.

    In terms of specifics:

    1. What hardware would I need?

    2. What software?

    3. How to promote my videos effectively on the internet and elsewhere.
