I feel as though there is an assumption in your first statement. The assumption being that if a project is produced for the pupose of selling it, then it wont be strong and benefiting to others.
-
Honestly, a financial transaction is an exchange of value and people excange value for what they see benefit in. Producing a project for the sole purpose of selling it is in its very nature hoping that its strong and will be of benefit to others.
-
Most people don't have the resources or passion for certain projects to see it to the end. Thats why they pick a specific role of being the coder, producer, director. Get paid for their service and be on to the next thing.

JazaakAllahu Khayran for the video.

I think what troubled me most was probably the intention behind that project - it seemed to be solely geared towards selling the project as opposed to continuing it strong and benefiting others.

Google, even when they were being sought out to be bought for millions of dollars, they stuck to their guns and continued to make the multibillionare business that we see today.

That's the way I thought it should be - that you have a vision for your company and that you stride forth with it. Of course, if you're trying to move onto greater projects or want to do something new, that's different but if your option from the beginning is to just get it sold and take only the money back, that feels way too capitalist for me.

A friend of mine pointed out a bit of history to me today - about the dark ages in Europe's history.
-
The stagnation of progress and development existed in the dark ages mainly b/c people struggled financially and knowledge was something limited to the elite of society. It was so bad they forgot how to make concrete.
-
Once people got past the struggle of just putting food on the table, they were able to seek out passions and projects that went beyond just survival.
-
Today, a lot of the dawah of Islam is in the dark ages. May Allah give us the tawfeeq to get beyond just trying to survive and move towards real progress. Ameen.
